Open-ended questions are questions that cannot be answered by simply writing “yes” or “no.” These questions are where you need to find the answer in the text and use evidence to support your answer. A good way to remember how to answer open-ended questions is to RACE past the finish.

Word Study Weekly Homework
This is your word study homework every week. You must complete 10 points worth of activities and it is due Thursday.
Remember:
· You can choose two 5 point activities or one 10 point activity.
· Write the names of the activity or activities you choose at the top of your paper.
· You may not complete the same activity two weeks in a row.
5 point choices
Silly Sentences – Write 10 sentences, with at least one of this week’s words in each sentence.
Picture Words – Draw a picture and write your spelling words in the picture.
ABC Words – Write your words in ABC order.
Definitions – Write 10 words and their definitions and parts of speech.
Practice Makes Permanent- Write each word 3 times each.
Type Your Words- Use a computer to type your words. Print the list or email it to me.
Rainbow Spelling- Copy your words 3 times each in 3 different colors.
Draw Your Words – Draw a picture of each of your words and write the word underneath.
Colorful Words- Write your words using 1 color for vowels and another color for consonants.
Cursive Spelling – Write your words neatly in cursive two times each.
Syllable Words – Write out each word and draw lines between the syllables.
Poem Spelling – Write a poem using at least 5 of your words.
10 Point Choices
Story Words – Write a good, 5th grade quality story using at least 10 of your words. Stories must be 2 paragraphs long and must make sense.
Ransom Words – Write out your spelling words using letter cut-outs from magazines/newspapers/etc.
Cheer Words – Come up with a cheer using at least 10 of your words. The cheer should be at least 6 lines in length.
Wordle – Go to www.wordle.net and create a word cloud using all of your words. The words need to be different sizes. The more you type a word, the bigger it becomes in your Wordle. Print it out. (MAKE SURE YOU DO A TEST FIRST TO BE SURE IT WORKS ON YOUR COMPUTER!)
Newspaper Words - Write a newspaper article using 10 of your words. Articles must be 2 paragraphs long and must make sense.
Tricky Words – Create “tricks” to help you remember how to spell each of the words.
Cartoon Words – Create a comic strip with illustrations using at least 10 of your words. Your comic needs to have six boxes.
Synonym and Antonym Words – Write a synonym and an antonym for each of your words.
