I am pleased to say that things are running smoothly here at Califon Public School! As usual, there is a lot going on with teachers busy teaching and learning and students working hard and having fun. I think we will all enjoy the holiday break that is upon us so that we can come back feeling rejuvenated and ready to go for a new calendar year!
Through grant monies, we continued to utilize the Hunterdon County Child Assault Prevention Program (CAP). This project aims to prevent child assault by teaching children to recognize and deal with potentially dangerous situations, and by training teachers and parents to help prevent the victimization of children. This year, we took it a step further and applied for grant monies to integrate CAPs Bully Prevention Program. This program covers all aspects of bullying and involves the students, teachers, and parents. Integrated within the program is a cyber bullying component, which teaches our sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students about its harmful effects and how to recognize it and get help.
I am taking part in our second annual Guys Read Club. This year, we are reading a book called The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman. Check it out online, as it has an interesting story line to say the least. We will be gearing up for Benchmark testing next month and then eventually moving to the online state standardized test (PARCC) in March and May. We continue our new math textbook search and hope to come to a conclusion sometime around March in order to have brand new math resources beginning next school year. Hopefully, the online report card and grade book system is working for everybody, as I have not heard otherwise, which typically means good news!
Please be sure to read Dr. Gamble’s latest email blast as he discusses two important aspects of our district in moving forward: the Shared Vision and shared services for our new superintendent for next year.
Finally, I want to take this opportunity to wish all of you a restful holiday! May it be filled with family, friends, and cheer. Enjoy this time of the year as it only comes around once. These days it seems like we are so busy with life itself that it passes us by without even realizing it! Let’s all slow down, take a deep breath, and cherish the moment. Happy Holidays!
